If you're ever cruising through Tampa, especially up around Waters Avenue, there's a spot you really ought to check out: Maikel's Kitchen. Tucked away at 3864 W Waters Ave, Tampa, FL 33614, this place has quietly become a true local favorite for anyone craving a taste of authentic Cuban and Latin American flavors. It’s the kind of unassuming eatery that quickly wins you over with its genuine warmth and incredible food.

Stepping into Maikel's Kitchen, you get a sense of a place where good food and community come first. The atmosphere is casual and inviting, perfect for a relaxed lunch or a satisfying dinner. It’s not about fancy frills here; it's about honest, delicious cooking that transports you straight to the heart of Cuba with every bite. The team running the show clearly pours a lot of love into what they prepare, and you can truly taste that dedication.

One of the absolute must-tries, as you might expect from a top-notch Cuban spot in Tampa, is their Cuban sandwich. It's a classic for a reason, and Maikel's version delivers all the comforting, savory goodness you look for. The bread is perfectly pressed, the pork is tender, and the balance of flavors is just right. People often rave about the Pernil, which is slow-roasted pork that's incredibly juicy and flavorful. It’s a dish that showcases the kitchen’s skill with traditional Cuban preparations.

Beyond the sandwiches and roast pork, the menu offers a delightful array of options. The various Rices, often served with black beans, make for the perfect accompaniment to any main dish, soaking up all the delicious juices. They also have a wonderful selection of Bakery items, from flaky pastries to rich, sweet Cakes that are perfect for a treat. And speaking of sweets, their Flan gets a lot of love – it's creamy, smooth, and just the right amount of sweet. You might even find yourself enjoying a refreshing Cola alongside your meal, completing the authentic experience.

While the core of Maikel's Kitchen leans strongly into Cuban tastes, you'll discover other Latin influences that make the menu diverse and interesting. Some folks speak highly of their Chicken Biryani, a delightful surprise that shows the kitchen's range. It's clear they aim to offer something delicious for everyone who walks through their doors.

Many folks mention that Maikel’s Kitchen also handles catering, making it a handy choice for events or gatherings where you want to bring those vibrant, comforting flavors to a larger crowd. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite or feeding a party, the quality and taste remain consistently high. It's a place that understands how to make simple ingredients shine, crafting meals that feel homemade and satisfying.

Maikel's Kitchen has firmly established itself as a beloved fixture in the Tampa food scene. It's a spot where you can count on getting a fantastic meal that feels both authentic and incredibly satisfying.

First timer and I have to say presentation is excellent. I stopped in on Saturday to grab a coffee and fell in love with how the food looked and smelled so decided to stop in on Sunday to actually eat. I have to say I will never be eating there again, the food looked like it was from the day before and it tasted like it also. Rice was hard and a bit cold, ordered rabo (ox tails) and it didn't have much flavor to it. Ordered chicken soup and that was okay to eat, also ordered chicharon (fried pork) it was cold and wasnt crispy. I think it's over priced from other places that are the same and food is way better.

I went to buy these bread filled with paste yesterday for a birthday at work today and when we opened them they were filled with mold. (See pictures) How long were they sitting there since they made them and why would they not check what they are selling. It is not right to sell something like this. I went to return them around 6PM after work and the lady said that she was going to return my money but if something like this happens again to make sure I go before 5PM before the manager leaves. The way she said that sounds like this happens too often she was not amazed about the amount of mold on the bread. Not buying anything here again.

I wish I found this place sooner; what a gem here in Tampa. The amount of options and food choices . One serving of rice is plenty for two people. All kinds of rice, meats, soups, and seafood too. The sweets OH MY ! My go to for almost everyday you won’t get bored because there’s options to try everyday something different.

Went into this place as a last minute late lunch & the 1st thing you notice is the smells that would make anyone hungry. Very clean & friendly staff. The staff all wore masks which in this day was a good thing to see. The lady that helped us was from Columbia, very friendly & knowledgeable of the food served there. The portions are HUGE & absolutely delicious 😋 Plus the selections of Spanish desserts are plentiful & very eye pleasing that it's hard to select just a couple!! I will be going back!!!

It’s better for you if you speak Spanish, but they have people that are looking to practice their English with you. The food is good and the decor is appealing. The menu is big and posted behind the area where you order your plate. There are 2 sections. 1 for quick snacks and juice, the other for larger meals and juice (lol, mas jugo!) it was my 1st time there and I look forward to eating again.
